What is a life coach and why does it sound so ridiculous?

First off, the term life-coach makes me cringe.  It implies that someone thinks they have the secret to making you a better person. In truth, no one can be a better you than YOU. Unfortunately, many of us (myself included), struggle with what that truly looks like.  A life coach honors you as a unique, creative force with a purpose and works with you to help bring your perfect existence to reality.

Coaching is not about telling someone what to do, but helping them understand what they already know.

Isn't YES, AND an improv technique?

Why, YES it is - AND there is a good reason for that! After studying under amazing teachers at iO in Chicago, I discovered there are many similarities between coaching and improv. Both require you to take a risk in trying something new without knowing the twists and turns that may lay ahead. Saying YES to new opportunities can open up a whole world of adventure. Remember - there are no accidents, just challenges to build on for a beautiful (and seemingly coordinated) story! Isn't that what makes life fun and interesting?

Does it really work?

Yes, it does! At the risk of sounding like a House of Masters commercial, I'm not only the owner, I'm also a client.  In order to be an effective coach, it's critical that we all go through the process ourselves.  Coaching (and improv) have changed my life for the better. Learning how to articulate your deepest desires is the first step to living the life you've always dreamed of.

Is coaching like therapy?

No! What I love about coaching is that it meets you where you are today. Of course, we all have situations in our past that affect us, but coaching is forward-thinking. The future belongs to you - how do you want to live it?

Coaching evaluates where you are today to discover where you want to be tomorrow.

How long should I sign up for?

A typical coaching relationship lasts 3-6 months, with some exceptions. If you refer to the illustration above, levels 2 and 3 take time and encouragement to get through. You are making changes in your life and that can be challenging. Having the support of a coach can help keep you motivated and on track.

Of course, I'm willing to develop a plan that works for your schedule. Sign up for a FREE meet and greet with me today and see what it's all about!

How do I know if this is right for me?

Personally, I think everyone can benefit from voluntarily taking stock in their life and not waiting until a crisis to reevaluate. Too often we put off thinking about "real" things until we are slapped in the face with them through a job loss, a death or another traumatic event. Life coaching gives you the coping tools to know who you are and where your going. You are in control of your own destiny.

You may be a good candidate if any of these questions resonate with you:

  • Are you aware that you're not invested in your current job but don't know what else you want to do?

  • Have you fantasized about learning a new skill or taking the dream job but are waiting for the "right" moment to make the commitment to change?

  • Are you shocked that this where your life is at your age?  Does it not match up to your expectations?

  • Do you say WTF am I doing with my life on a regular basis?
